For many months now, we have been talking of renovating our house. It has not been given any facelift since we moved in fourteen years ago. However because of financial constraints, we decided that renovations should be kept to a minimum.

First priority, we feel, should be given to the fence which seems to be falling apart. Our neighbor’s dog is continually in our flower bed digging up the bones it has buried there. The front gate too could be sand-papered and painted brown.

The roof of the house requires attention too. The tiles should be replaced new red tiles. The second storey ceiling is damp and the paint is peeling away. The outer wall of the house is to pained white to give it a fresh, new look. The frames of the windows are to be painted red to give a chic finish to the house and to match the new red roof tiles.

The interior walls of the house are to be given a whitewash. The new sofa set we are going to buy would be black. Brightly colored cushions will be strewn all over the place to give the room a cheerful look.

The kitchen cabinets are to be removed and new cabinets fitted. An extension of the kitchen may also be a feasible idea, as it would allow my mother to do her cooking outside the main kitchen.

Although these renovations, that are being planned, will indeed beautify our home, they will not ensure our happiness. After all, it is the people who make a house a home, and not the furniture or the beauty of the house itself. A happy home is one that abounds in love.
